Alma Road
The site at Alma Road, Peterborough was previously a sports
ground owned by Perkins Engines and had been derelict for a number
of years when it was purchased by Accent Nene in 2004. The site is
being redeveloped to provide new housing as well as recreation
facilities which can be used by the wider community. Works are
progressing well on site and the scheme is planned to complete mid
2008.
The seven-acre site is being redeveloped to provide 79 homes (3
x 5 bedroom houses and 2 bedroom apartments) which will include
homes for affordable rent, shared ownership and outright sale. A
significant proportion of the site will remain as public open
space, some of which will be landscaped while some will be designed
as play areas. A £5 million Extra Care Housing Scheme, which will
be operated by Axiom Housing Association, will also be built at
Alma Road. The development will comprise 35 flats for rent and five
for shared ownership and will include a range of communal
facilities.
There is also currently a provision on the site for a Primary
Care Facility, the details are yet to be finalised but the
intention is that it will serve the needs of the new community as
well as existing residents in the surrounding area.
