Accent Nene manager Gill Anderton is enjoying a double celebration after successfully completing a postgraduate certificate in sustainable business at Cambridge University and taking on a new green role within the housing association.

Gill was awarded a Merit upon successful completion of a highly intensive eight-month postgraduate course at Cambridge. The course was developed as part of the University of Cambridge Programme for Industry. As a natural extension of her success she has been appointed to the newly created role of sustainability and project manager at Accent Nene, based at the housing association's Peterborough office.

The course teaches business change management and how to adapt to changes in sustainability. As one of only two registered social landlords who sent delegates to the course, Accent Nene has demonstrated its commitment to tackling the sustainability agenda.

Accent Nene sponsored Gill throughout the internationally recognised course which attracts delegates from global 'blue chip' businesses including ICI, BP and Texaco. It is very sought after and with only 45 places available is often over-subscribed ten times over.

Gill's new appointment and her success on her post graduate certificate course mean that she will now help to highlight sustainability issues within Accent Nene and promote the association's Green Nene Working Group and other environmental initiatives.

Commenting on her course and her new appointment Gill Anderton said: "I am delighted to have successfully completed the course. It was a very intensive eight months and I am pleased with the result.

"Completing the course has given me a thorough grounding in sustainability issues that I am able to bring to my new role within Accent Nene.

"I am delighted to be appointed to the role of sustainability and project manager. The information I have learned on the course and the access it gives me to an online alumni network will facilitate continued learning and the ability to share the latest information on sustainability issues."

Accent Nene chief executive Andrew Williams added: "I am delighted that Gill is able to celebrate her double - successful completion of her postgraduate certificate and her appointment as sustainability and project manager. It has given her the knowledge and leadership skills in this area to drive forward green initiatives at Accent Nene which will benefit not only us but also our residents and business partners.

"Not only is this testament to Gill's hard work but it demonstrates Accent Nene's commitment to sustainability. Our sponsorship of Gill's course has kick started a number of green initiatives including the development of a sustainability strategy for Accent Nene.
