Windmill Estate, Fulbourn
The successful regeneration of the Windmill Estate in Fulbourn,
Cambridge is a high profile project for both Accent Nene and our
partner South Cambridgeshire District Council. The existing 1960s
estate is in need of extensive investment as many of the properties
are suffering from a range of defects synonymous with 1960s system
built design.
The proposed master plan is seeking to create new homes within a
high quality environment through the replacement of the existing
units [164] with up to 276 new units for rent, shared ownership and
for open sale. This opportunity is also seeking to contribute to
the sub regional 'previously developed land' target.
The regeneration of the estate isn't just about new homes -
creating an inclusive and sustainable community is a key project
objective. Accent Nene is therefore seeking to include further
community facilities on site as a part of the overall master
plan.
This is an exciting and challenging opportunity for the wider
community of Fulbourn. From the outset this local residents have
been fully consulted on the regeneration master plan to ensure that
resident's views and sensitivities are taken on board and to
promote wider sustainability across the master plan.
Accent Nene has been involved in this project for over 3 years
and through the culmination of local and wider stakeholder
involvement the proposed master plan for the project was submitted
in May 2007 with a view to starting on site in late 2007.
