Choice based lettings
What is Choiced Based Letting?
Choice based lettings is a scheme which changes the way local
authorities and Housing Associations let their homes.
When properties become empty, instead of each landlord approaching
people on their individual waiting lists, properties belonging to
all landlords within the scheme are advertised together. People who
have applied to be housed then 'bid' for those they are interested
in and are given more choice as to what is available.
Most schemes do not run the old-style 'points system' but work on a
banding scheme based on an applicants housing need. For example
homeless people may be put in band 1 (most urgent) and people
already adequately housed but wanting a home are classed as non
urgent and are put in band 4 (least urgent).
What does this mean for residents?
Accent
Nene are partners in Choice Based Lettings schemes in Peterborough,
Boston, Nottingham, East Northamptonshire, Fenland, Kettering,
Huntingdon, South Cambridgeshire and Northampton areas. If you wish
to move or transfer to or within these areas, you can no longer do
so by going on a waiting list at Accent Nene as we have already
closed most of our waiting lists. This stops duplication and allows
applicants to register at one place only for re-housing.
