Q. Who can apply for housing?
A. When you
approach your local council they will ask you to register your
details with them. Applicants should normally be aged 18 or over,
although in certain circumstances applicants aged 16 to 18 may be
entitled to housing. We aim to provide housing to people on a low
income, which is usually below the average earnings for the area
where they live. We do not house people who are already home-owners
unless there are special circumstances.Once you have registered,
the council will assess the priority of your application dependant
on how urgent your need for housing is. For more details on the
priority criteria contact your local council.
Q. How does Accent Nene decide who gets housed?
A. In the areas
that operate a choice based lettings scheme, we will receive
details of the highest bidder or a shortlist of top bidders from
the local council. In other areas, we receive nominations from the
local council based on the applicant's suitability for the property
and housing requirements.
Q. What sort of property might I be eligible for?
A. The type of
property you will be housed in, will mainly depend on the number of
people in your household and any medical needs identified by the
information supplied to your local council on your application. If
applicants have any support, medical or disability needs we have a
range of different accommodation types. If you are registering with
a local authority that operates a Choice Based Lettings scheme you
will only be eligible to bid for properties that are suitable for
your requirements. If you are nominated for a property from a non
choice based lettings area, your local council will have matched
you to a home that best meets your needs in relation to size and
location.
Q. What happens after I have viewed a property?
A. After a
viewing has taken place, if you would like to proceed with the
tenancy, our Housing Officers will verify your details and if
required obtain references. Once any checks necessary have been
completed satisfactorily we will contact you to arrange a tenancy
sign up date.
Q. Does Accent Nene provide a waiting list for all
homes?
A. Accent Nene
no longer holds a waiting list for any of its homes. We work in
partnership with Local Authorities when letting an empty home.
Common registers and allocation policies have been agreed with our
Local Authority partners providing a fair and consistent service to
all households who need to be re-housed.
Q. Can I apply direct to Accent Nene for housing?

Nene no longer holds a waiting list, you will need to approach your
Local Council directly to register with Choice Based Lettings or be
put on the local authorities' waiting list. Please see the how to
