Shared ownership is what its name suggests. You buy a share in a property from Accent Nene and pay a rent for the share you do not own. This share is sold to you on a long lease usually between 99 and 125 years (shorter, if you purchased from a previous shared owner). The lease sets out your rights and obligations. A plan, attached to the lease, shows the boundaries of your property.
You can apply to buy further shares. this is known as Staircasing. For most properties you can "staircase" up to 100% of the property. For some properties the amount you can purchase is limited, this is known as Restricted Staircasing. Your lease will provide full details of staircasing
As a shared owner you will have to pay your mortgage, rent and service charge monthly.
