Accent Group takes your privacy very seriously.
As our customer, you have the right to expect that the personal information you give us, or which we obtain because of your dealings with us, is treated in confidence. This means that your personal information will not be given to anybody else.
Every employee is responsible for making sure that they never give out information on any matter without first checking the identity of the caller and whether the caller is entitled to such information.
Here are some of the questions we might ask to check a caller’s identity:
- Full name.
- Full address including postcode.
- Date of birth.
- Child’s date of birth.
- National insurance number.
- Contact telephone number.
- Which waiting lists they are on.
- The number of points they have been awarded.
If in any doubt, we will ring the caller back using the telephone number we have on our records.
Information to third parties
We can only respond to requests for information about you when we have your permission. This would include things such as landlord references, information to Housing Benefit/Supporting People and information to support agencies and statutory agencies.
The Data Protection Act 1998
The Data Protection Act 1998 requires all organisations that handle personal information (including paper and electronic records), to comply with a number of important principles concerning privacy and disclosure.
Our data must be:
- Fairly and lawfully processed.
- Processed for limited purposes.
- Adequate, relevant and not excessive.
- Accurate and up to date.
- Not kept for longer than necessary.
- Processed in line with the individual’s rights.
- Secure.
- Not transferred to other countries without adequate protection.
The Data Protection Act also allows you to find out what personal information we hold about you.
In storing your personal information, in accordance with the terms of the Data Protection Act 1998, we will use it to understand your needs and provide you with a better service.
In accordance with the terms of the Data Protection Act 1998, if you wish to see or get a copy of the personal information we hold about you, then you must apply in writing to the data controller with an administration fee of £10. Once we have received your request in writing and your £10 fee, we will send you a copy of all the information we have about you. We will keep a record of all requests for information.
